The RGV Wing Museum and main hangar as it will be seen from Boca Chica.
The proposed Museum will feature the architectural style existing during the early days
of Brownsville and the Pan Am Airways era. A military style entrance and gate house will
greet the visitor to set the theme for aviation during a period in history when aviation
was in its prime.
Plans have been under discussion several years for the Rio Grande Valley Wing's new home
to be relocated on Brownsville/South Padre Island International Airport property. The
site on Boca Chica Boulevard is directly north of the airport's on-field fire station.
The facility's main building will house the museum, administrative offices, public meeting
room with lounge, and museum workshop. Additional buildings will include the main hangar
for large aircraft as well as three small hangars for liason aircraft, primary and basic
trainers, and foreign trainer aircraft.
An adjunct to the Brownsville Historic Air Museum will be a on-and-a-half acre public park
incorporating a bike-and-walk trail, a main cabana, several shaded rest areas and bbq fixtures.
The main theme and style of the museum facility will evoke a nostalgic 1940's airpark feel.
