Airsho 2006 in Midland is history! From the pyro side of the field, everything went
extremely well. The show was, for the most part, grouped in such a way that those
acts needing pyro were grouped together to make our job a lot easier.
Saturdays show began with a mustering of the troops behind the High Sky Wing hangar.
Construction of the new Commemorative Center has begun and the foundation has been
poured. With construction in full swing, no vehicle traffic was allowed during the
show at our "normal" meeting area. Some 45-50 hearty souls gathered on Saturday,
followed by a lesser number of volunteers on Sunday. We used every available hand
as they were in short supply this year. Everyone (and I do mean everyone) coming
out did their part to make Airsho 06 a successful pyro event.
One key addition to this years show was the inclusion of a Korea Act followed by
Vietnam re-enactments complete with a downed pilot rescue. Our own Travis Skinner,
being the hard-bellied, young 21 year old dude who could run, played the part of the
downed pilot rescued by the chopper. The Korea and Vietnam segments added to our pyro
responsibilities and included napalm demos, strafes for the Cobra and assorted other
ground fire.
Also this year, we were able to secure additional fuel so Sundays shots were
supplemented to include the wall with about 1000 gallons and the A-Bomb with nearly
500. Pretty impressive. They are still commenting on this years wall!!!
Thanks to everyone who helped in whatever capacity you offered. Each and every person
on the field is a valuable asset to our performance.
