Preparation for Hurricane "Emily"
RGV-Wing Hangar, Brownsville, TX
Saturday, July 16, a few wing members reported to the CAF hangar
to prepare for Hurricane Emily. Anything that was portable was moved
into the hangar where, despite the notoriously leaking roof, protection
from the wind should be provided (to keep flying debris at a
minimum in the area). Airshow fencing, trash barrels, vehicles, and
even the PBY Catalina were shoved into our hangar. Hopefully the
hangar doors will hold in the event of high winds which are expected.
We hope for the best and we will keep you posted.

South Padre Island "Beach-n-Biker Fest" Fly-Over
Port Isabel/South Padre Island Click here for pictures!
The RGV-Wing fly-over for the South Padre Island
Beach-n-Biker Fest went well.
Our formation of two, the Boeing Stearman with David Hughston
on the controls and Nina Hughston as an observer and the
Ryan PT-22, with Chris Hughston as pilot and Bernhard Klug
as ballast (and photographer), left Brownsville at 5:30 pm.
Despite a good breeze that kept the two pilots busy on take-off,
we reached Port Isabel at 6:00 pm as planned. We followed the
proposed parade route along the Queen Isabella Causeway, from
Port Isabel across Laguna Madre to South Padre Island, flew North over
Padre Island Blvd. and took the opportunity to get some nice air-to-air
pictures on this beautiful day. At the Padre Island Convention Center
we turned back towards Port Isabel. Half way across the bridge, we
got a glimpse and a few shots of the parade as it made its way towards the
island. As much as we wanted to turn around and follow the parade, we
had to continue back to Brownsville Airport in order to land before sunset.
We hope everybody had a great time at the Beach-n-Biker Fest and a safe trip home.
